Brief Guideline:
1. Briefly research your country in general. You want to be familiar with your country assignment so you're confident representing it. Ask yourself: - What are some basic facts about the country (head of government, population), the NGO, or the individual? - What are the foreign policy objectives? - With which organizations and nations does the country work (look for voting blocs, allies, other affiliations...)? - What role does the country play in the UN; how long has it been a member? - What UN initiatives has the country participated in? 2. Research the issues to be addressed in your committee; the history, the causes, the development, the countries involved. Ask yourself: - What is the issue at hand? - What is the history of the issue? - What countries are involved and/or most affected? - What is the country’s, NGO’s, or individual’s position on the issue? - How has the country, NGO, or individual handled the issue in the UN in the past; what would make it change positions? - What are plausible solutions to the problems posed? 3. Look into any other statistics, information etc that you feel you may need to making your argument effective. |
